My name is Devin Saavedra and I am currently a junior at Florida State University, majoring in Media/Communication studies with a minor in Psychology and English. My prime career goal is to become a Development Executive and Producer for a mass media and entertainment company. As a Development Executive, I wish to be part of a creative team and help create and decide on concepts for prospective shows and films. Along with being involved in the creative process, I would also become involved in finding the source material that can be turned into a motion picture content.
While attending Florida State, I have had the opportunity to work for the Development and Public Relations sectors of WVFS Tallahassee. I was part of a team of creative individuals whose primary goal was to sell the radio station, from tabling music events to creating and producing commercials. I also have a background in theater production from High School and with an organization called Where Every Child Is a Star Inc., a non-profit organization that promotes the appreciation and participation of the arts in school programs. I held the position as Show Coordinator, in which I was responsible for overseeing the show’s production as well as teach students music and acting skills. I was also giving the opportunity to work for a marketing and production company called Que Belle. I was assigned as the assistant to the production manager, where I learned the inner working of how to host and advertise events.
All of my work experiences have taught me to not only be a leader, but to become part of a team and to become proficient in communicating ideas and propositions for events or shows. I have also learned how to time manage my time and meet deadlines, an important aspect that I know is crucial for a career in the entertainment business.
