Most
of the speakers that came by our class had valuable information that answered a
lot of my questions and concerns about my future career path. However, there is
one speaker in particular whose words resonated with me. When Del Suggs first
walked into our classroom with his positive attitude and big smile I felt
instantly at ease. I had this air to him that made you feel that you have been
his friend for a long time. Besides his demeanor, Del also provided the class
with advice on how to do anything. He made a point that you can do anything if
you put your mind to it and believe in yourself that you can accomplish your goals.
I know that these words of reason have been drilled into me before, but the way
Del Suggs explained it made me truly believe in those words of advice.
Del
also emphasized the importance of writing down your goals, no matter how small
or simple they may be. Once you write down a goal, the goal is attainable.
Since then, I have written down all of my goals like I would a grocery list and
I can personally say that it has worked! I've also realized that when I write
down my goals I am also facing the fears and idea of failure straight in the
face. Del commented that we have this fear whenever we face a challenge or goal
because we fear success. At first, I didn't quite understand his explanation. I
love the idea of being successful and achieving a goal as much as the next
person. However, Del goes on to say that we fear success because once we
accomplish that goal, we have to move on to a higher more challenging goal.
That idea can scary many people because the higher the goal, the higher the
risk of failure. Having this revolution has made me face those fears and
realize that bigger and more challenging goals are okay. Thanks to Del Suggs I
have gained a new process for taking on my goals and having the ability to
actually do anything I put my mind to.
