Changes

When I first started taking my Careers in Communication class, I honestly had no idea that I would gain so much insight about myself. I realized that there are changes that are quickly approaching. Changes that need to be made within myself and the choices I make. One major change that I have done so far is become a member of WVFS Tallahassee. Working at the radio station has taught me to multitask and really become part of a team. I’ve also had the opportunity to network with local business and expand my knowledge in the public relations and development field. Working at the station has also allowed me to maintain an organized schedule as well as expand on my communication skills.
Another major change that I have gone through is having an adaptable voice. What I mean by that is having the ability to communicate in different styles so that other individuals can understand my position or point of view. Working at the station and networking have shown me that people’s communication skills vary and that sometimes you need to alternate your way of speaking and thinking in order to reach a goal. An example of this can be seen whenever we plan an event for the radio station. Our team members each hold a different voice and a different way of thinking, which can usually pose as a problem whenever the team needs to make a decision. However, these though situations have opened my eyes to this change and I always try to communicate wither it’s by adapting or trying to understand an individual’s communication style.
Finally, the last change that I am currently and will probably be going through for a while is to maintain an open mind. As graduation looms near, I have realized that keeping an open mind about moving to a different city or taking on a job that may not be my dream job is important. Life isn’t a straight shot, and some things that I want to happen for me may not for whatever reason. Therefore, it’s important for me to be open about new job prospects and ideas about living in a city that I never thought about living in. Gaining the ability to have an open mind will not only help me with my career objectives, but make me a well-rounded individual in life.
